Location sharing on iPhone
Open Command Post when an operation starts. When your agency enables location sharing for an active operation, the app asks for permission to use your location. Allow location while using the app and enable Precise Location in iPhone Settings.
The updated iPhone app can continue sharing while locked or in the background after sharing starts. Keep it running. Force-quitting the app or restarting the phone stops sharing; reopen it to resume. A later operation may also require reopening the app.
“Last shared position” shows the time of a position accepted by the server. Updates depend on location availability, iOS, and connectivity; there is no guaranteed update interval. A stale or missing update does not establish anyone’s current position. Location sharing is not an emergency service.
Offline positions are held only in a limited memory buffer and can be lost if the app closes. Temporary delivery failures keep a limited queue for retry. If the native bridge is unavailable, sharing falls back to the foreground operation screen; any discarded positions are reported in the status strip. Signing out stops collection on this device. You can also turn off location permission in iPhone Settings. Agency changes take effect when the app next reaches the server.
Browser and older app versions share only while their operation screen is active. They do not have the updated app’s background capability.
